08/15/07 China's Hurting US Seafood Industry

Again China has gotten my dander up, everyday I open the newspaper wondering what's next in the saga of shenanigans this unscrupulous country passes off to naïve and gullible Americans . Our children, our citizens, our pets, farm animals and now our seafood industry have been potentially damaged by the antics of the Chinese. Don't for a moment believe that the hardworking men and women who harvest, package and market US seafood will remain unscathed by the by the fact that 100 million pounds of suspect Chinese seafood slipped into American stores over the last 8 months. 66,000 people in this country potentially could have eaten fish and shell fish that should have been screened for banned chemicals and drugs by the FDA. They weren't, (that's another story ) and we have virtually no idea how many people really did. While no illness have been reported, naturally consumers will be wary of all seafood unless the US industry mounts an aggressive campaign to differentiate itself from Americans' biggest source of foreign seafood, and that would be & China
