I never thought I would see the day my son a calf roper would compete in a pink shirt. Thanks to the efforts of Terry Wheatly Tommy's attire wasn't novel. The "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" initiative has been a smashing success at the collegiate and professional rodeo levels . Terry, (herself a breast cancer survivor) and mother of team roper Wade Wheatly's mission to raise awareness for breast cancer cumulated last year at the national finals in Vegas. Cowboys, cowgirls and horses were decked out in pink to honor Terry's efforts to bring attention to the over 200,000 women diagnosed each year with breast cancer and celebrate the fact that professional rodeo met Terry's goal to raise a million-dollars in one year. Today Terry works to coordinate all the fundraising events that have snowballed from Tough Enough to Wear Pink Campaign! It simply inspires me how one woman's idea grew into a nationwide movement that has stirred the whole horse industry and has been called one of the most creative and visible awareness campaigns in the country and by the way cowboys in crisp button down pink collared shirts are pretty easy on the eye.
