Crop insurance deadlines in the new year

Washington Ag Today December 27, 2010 The first important crop insurance sales closing date for 2011 is coming up in about a month. Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional office of the Risk Management Agency says that will be January 31st.

Seufer: “January 31st is the final date for producers to obtain or change their Adjusted Gross Revenue insurance. That is available in selected counties throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho. And then also it is the final date to submit required documents to continue to change their AGR-Lite, which is Adjusted Gross Revenue Lite, for all of Oregon, Idaho and Washington counties.”

New applications for AGR-Lite will be accepted until March 15th.

These gross revenue insurance plans are pilot projects and are available in only 28 states and Seufer says the Pacific Northwest leads the nation in participation.

Seufer: “There is probably a little under one thousand policies total nationwide and 850 of them are here in the Pacific Northwest. Our perennial crop growers very much like this product because of the volatility of prices of their commodities.”

Following January 31st, February 1st is the sales closing date to obtain or change crop insurance coverage for 2011 spring planted onions in the Pacific Northwest and cabbage in Washington and Oregon.
