Shipper/Handler recommends United Fresh leadership program

Washington Ag Today December 24, 2010 The United Fresh Foundation’s Center for Leadership Excellence is inviting industry leaders to apply for the 17th annual class of the Produce Industry Leadership Program.

Mike Connors of Basin Gold is in the current class and he recommends it.

Connors: “And really would encourage anyone else who is thinking about it or looking for an opportunity to broaden their industry horizon and perspective to apply. A very, very good program.”

Connors is only about halfway through the year-long leadership program but says he has already learned a tremendous amount.

Connors: “They focus a great deal on food safety, on media training, leadership training obviously, and exposure to several areas of the produce industry that you would not normally have.”

Connors says the program actually started with a tour of eastern Washington and into Hermiston, Oregon. The class also went to the other Washington, D.C., for a public policy conference.

The fellows for the program are chosen from a broad cross-section of the industry to represent the breadth of the United Fresh membership. There is no cost to participate and all regular expenses are covered through program funding, which is supported by a grant from DuPont Crop Protection.

The deadline for applications to the Produce Industry Leadership Program is March 4, 2011. You can apply on line at the United Fresh website.
