This is your Northwest report for Monday, October 31, otherwise known as Halloween, I'm David Sparks and as farmers across the Northwest finish up harvest and put things away for the winter, folks from agri-Pulse.com remind us that  it’s important not to forget to prepare diesel fuel for colder weather. Certain blends of diesel fuel will gum up the works of various farm machinery. Doug Yule is the Regional Fuel Manager for Countryside Co-op, and he said preparing diesel fuel for winter should start even before the first snowflake falls. He says additives that don’t mix with diesel fuel because of colder temps are simply a waste of money for farmers. Yule says it’s important to use up as much of the blends you have in storage tanks as well as fuel tanks on your machines. Yule added cold fuel and a hot tractor will cause condensation in fuel tanks, and the new Tier 4 systems don’t like getting moisture in the tanks at all. Condensation can really cause problems for fuel pumps and injectors if it’s running through the system.

Staying with the topic of diesel, as lawmakers focus on their post-election agenda, the nation's biodiesel industry wants them to know that extension of the biodiesel tax incentive should definitely be on their year-end “to do” list.

Finally, Off-the-charts unbelievable": Even the defense was stunned when a federal jury acquitted all seven defendants in the 41-day armed takeover of Oregon's Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Ammon Bundy's defense lawyer wasn't satisfied, though, and went down screaming when he was tased in the courtroom.?
