I got an email that led me to a website called trellisgrowing systems.com. There I found a headline that said ripe with opportunity: Revenues of $45,000 and More Per Acre. It continued, In the past, extreme winter temperatures in the Midwest limited the success of growing blackberries as a crop. But thanks to the unique designs from Trellis Growing Systems (TGS), crops are now protected from damaging low temperatures and desiccating high winds prevalent in the Midwest. This helps ensure predictable yields year after year.

A company named Trellis Growing Systems invited one and all to attend a Blackberry Tasting Reception in the Midwest. One of the draws was the company claims growers are diversifying their business and harvesting revenues in the $45,000 plus per acre range. I called up someone who is billed as the media contact person, his name is Richard Barnes but he is also an owner. Here's our conversation: " Is the Northwest a good opportunity for the farmer wants to have an alternative crop?: Absolutely. Basically the trellising system and the training techniques, the method used to train the canes on to the trellising, whether you are selling berries to a local farmers market, or you have a you pick operation, or if you want to produce a larger volume for the fresh market, $45,000 plus per acre, Wow that's pretty impressive, is yes but that's gross, right, I'm not saying that you are going to profit that much."

Their modular trellising systems do more than support plants. They can protect against wind, birds and winter weather.
