Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Niki Davila with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Davila: "We had 11,393 tons of hay trade this week compared to last Friday. Alfalfa was generally steady. Trade was moderate with light to moderate demand. Timothy hay was steady, demand was light to moderate. Retail hay was also steady and demand remains good. Alfalfa large square premium quality $150 for export and $145 for delivered. Good to premium quality $125 for export, good quality $135 for export and $155 to $158 delivered for export and for retail small bales premium quality $190."

In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade was moderate to active with moderate demand. Trade near standstill on alfalfa with light demand as exporters and dairies quit buying. Large square bales of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $125 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold sold between $215 and $240 per ton for the retail/market. In Lake County large squares or alfalfa rated supreme for export sold between $185 and $195 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated premium sold for $170 per ton. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated supreme sold for $135 per ton. In Harney County sold large squares of alfalfa rated premium for $160 per ton.
