Governor's Cup Wine Tasting This Thursday

Governor's Cup Wine Tasting This Thursday

This Thursday evening, August 4th, is the annual Governor’s Cup Wine Tasting in Denver. Colorado Wine Industry Development Board Executive Director Doug Caskey says
Caskey: “Governor Hickenlooper will be present to hand out the awards for the top wine in the state in at the Governor’s Cup Tasting at History Colorado in downtown Denver. The wines were selected by several panels of 16 judges that we assembled from — wine writers, sommeliers, wine educators, wine makers from Colorado and across the country. Those people singled out the top 12 grape wines and the top six cider, meads and fruit wines from over 250 entries and 33 wineries.”
Both this year and last year, the competition has been split into two categories — one for grape wines and the other for hard cider, meads and fruit wines. Caskey continues with what the judges’ impressions were of the wine submitted for this competition.
Caskey: “The judges were really pleased with the quality of the wines across the board. They found everything to be very solid and serviceable and commercial — and that was at the very least. The top wines everybody raved about.”
If you enjoy excellent wine and food, Caskey encourages you to attend this event.
Caskey: “August 4th will be the only time that you will see all 18 wines in one place at one time. So not only is a great food and wine pairing event because we’ve got all of these fabulous chefs preparing menu items to specifically match these wines — but this is the only time you’re going to taste everything together.”
