Identifying crops. How often has this happened to you? You're riding along in farm country and you see either newly sprouted row crops or even mature and maybe somebody in the car says what you think that is that is growing. Obviously, ag sophisticates can tell but most people get into a guessing game. Wouldn't it be clever and a service for agriculture if there were signs telling people what was growing. Well the USDA's Farm Services Agency found a solution, at least in Idaho. The Lewiston Tribune reports that this year, shortly before Memorial Day, signs identifying the various crops that are grown in Idaho and Lewis counties began sprouting up along US 95, Idaho 1622 between Grangeville and Nez Perce and in some spots beside US 12. Kaci Ralston of the Lewis County Farm agency office said they had received tons of compliments on the signs. The idea came from me USDA's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food program.
