The Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival/ Fall River Fly Rods starts tomorrow for the sixth consecutive year on the Middle Provo River. I talked with event coordinator, Julie Zicha. " We absolutely want to get as many kids as possible out on the river and involved with flyfishing. We try very hard to make them a big focus of our event every year with our kids fly fishing derby that we do. As far as the kids go, we have free fly fishing kids lessons all day Friday. Our event runs Friday and Saturday. We have a couple of 17-year-old boys who are sponsored by Orvis and Cabela's to help get out and teach kids how to fly fish. We have gear for them. They don't have to know anything, they just have to come on down and we will get them up to speed. Saturday we have our fly fishing derby that runs from 11 to 3 and the kids can come any time in that time period, Go out and fish the river, which is an amazing fishery, one of the best in the country, particularly for brown trout. After fishing the kids come back to the park with pictures of their catches. This year we have five rod and reel combos that we give out to the winners of the derby by age and gender.
