From a phone call to Google to the discovery of a huge black bear that was killed in Oregon. I have the craziest job. One of our regular contributors to the show is Austin Allen who is an avid and great outdoorsman. His mother, who is on the Sportsman’s Spotlight, told me to give him a call to see if he had a story. Listen to the call. “This is Austin. Hey Austin David Sparks. Hi David how are you? I'm fine buddy. Hey your mother suggested that I call you for a variety of reasons… Oh Oh… (laughter). Do you have any hunting stories for me? I don’t but I just heard about a huge black bear that was killed in southern Oregon, something like 490 pounds, go online and look it up.” So I did it and here’s what I found. The Herald and news reports that ranchers in Southern Oregon have legally killed a 490-pound black bear after one of their yearling heifers had been killed by the bear. Field biologists say the male bear weighed 490 pounds, stood 6-foot-5 and was 13 to 15 years old. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Craig Foster said the largest black bear he had previously seen weighed 345 pounds. Foster says ranchers are legally allowed to kill bears that attack cattle.
