Humans eating meat on a par with the anchovy. What does that mean?

I get the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association newsletter via email every week and I saw something that made no sense to me. It said that humans are eating meat on a level with omnivores such as anchovies and pigs. For an explanation I had to call Wyatt Prescott: “Essentially what that is saying is that we are eating more meat as a species I guess but we are not carnivores, we are still on a level with omnivores like anchovies and pigs which I think is a very healthy thing but I think the most interesting nugget in this article is a 3% rise in global consumption which means that a round the world we are eating more meat and consuming more of this high quality protein but when you look inside the United States we are actually not. It hasn’t risen in the United States in the last 20 years. Other countries, developing countries that we are seeing come into this like China, India, Asia, Africa, South America are the ones who are producing this large increase. That means there are more customers for our product.
