The Governor's budget and agriculture

Washington Ag Today December 16, 2010 Governor Chris Gregoire’s 2011-2013 state budget proposal unveiled yesterday includes moving the Washington State Conservation Commission into the Washington State Department of Agriculture. The Commission assists local conservation districts. The move to the ag department would reduce personnel needs.

Gregoire’s budget plan would also reduce state funding for fairs. And applicants for water rights would have to pay the full cost of processing applications.

Universities like WSU would get a 4.2 percent cut in state support that cannot be backfilled with increased tuition.

?Now this report from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuiness with Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Big sale earlier this week. We ended up with 750 cattle. Fully steady market. Cows stronger again. The best of the cows in 60-dollar money. This coming Monday, last sale of the year, we’ve got a big string of bred heifers. We are going to feature bred cows at one o”clock. We’ve got some outstanding good young cows. We’ll sell all classes of cattle and all classes of cattle will sell before noon with the bred cows featured at one o’clock. That’s Stockland Livestock here in Davenport. Thanks for listening. Thanks for your business.

Thanks Jack.
