Apolo Ohno joining Washington State Potato Commission at big produce show

Washington Ag Today September 10, 2010 When the Washington State Potato Commission attends the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit International Convention and Exposition next month in Orlando, Florida it will have quite a celebrity at its pavilion. Commission assistant executive director Karen Bonaudi says they have had chefs at their pavilion before but this year Olympic short track speed skater Apolo Ohno of Seattle will join them.

Bonaudi: “This is the last event on his contract with us so we are looking forward to taking him to Orlando in October for the Produce Marketing Association trade show. While he is at the pavilion he is going to be signing copies of our Celebrity Chef Recipe Book. Apolo is on the cover of the recipe book with chef Franz Junga from Il Fornio in Seattle. There is also a recipe inside for gnocchi which they are cooking together.”

The Fresh Summit International Convention and Exposition runs October 15th through the 18th in Orlando and Ohno, an eight-time Olympic medalist, will be there on the afternoon of the 16th. That recipe Ohno will help prepare with Chef Junga is a potato dumpling.

Bonaudi estimates about 30-thousand people pass through the exposition during the course of the event.
