USDA’s Farm Service Agency is working to speed up its system for working with producers participating in government programs. FSA administrator Jonathan Coppess told a Congressional hearing the agency is working not only to update its computer and IT systems but also the basic way programs are administered.

Coppess: “It is not going to be rolled out at one time. We are pushing very hard to take care of those things we can clean up now. Start making those improvements so our customers see it, so that our field employees see it, that we make that progress as we go and we demonstrate that progress as we go.”

Coppess says full completion won’t be accomplished until 2014 but within the next year you should see improvement in time at the counter, on time to sign up and time from sign up to payment.
