Groundbreaking slated for WSU's new School for Global Animal Health

Washington Ag Today June 17, 2010 Washington State University will break ground on a 62-thousand square-foot, three-story flagship research building next week. Its for the new School for Global Animal Health and groundbreaking will be June 25th at noon.

The facility is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2012 and will house a state-of-the-art infectious disease research center for investigating emerging diseases. The research building is being constructed with the help of a 25-million dollar grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The balance of the 35-million total cost of the first-phase project will be comprised of bonds issued by the state of Washington and private gifts to the university.

Unless Congress acts the federal Estate Tax is due to return this coming January 1st with a top rate of 55 percent and a one-million dollar exemption. The American Farm Bureau Federation is urging agricultural producers to share their stories with lawmakers. Cody Lyon of the American Farm Bureau.

Lyon: “The Senators they just need to know. They can hear from lobbyists all they want. They can hear from businesses all they want but it is the personal story of farmers and ranchers that will have a dramatic impact on this issue, and will just help the Senators and their staffs understand the impact estate taxes have farmers and ranchers. Farmers and ranchers need to share that story. What they have gone through or how they are planning.”

The American Farm Bureau website has a place to share your story…www.fb.org
