Chen says growers should also start watching their spring wheat for signs of stripe rust.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has made some changes in its governance proposal in response to concerns expressed by the USDA on the firewall between NCBA and the national beef check off. In a teleconference Wednesday NCBA’s Kendal Frazier summed up the changes.

Frazier: “The proposed by-laws will say that the Federation of State Beef Councils will have full authority over their check off budget. Two, another change was that in the election of the chair and vice-chair of the Federation and the eight members of the Operating Committee, that will be done by the Federation act independently. The nominations will come only from qualified state beef councils.”

Finally the Federation of State Beef Council delegates in the new NCBA House of Delegates, will be prohibited from voting on matters to influence government policy or actions.

Washington Ag Today June 10, 2010 USDA Agricultural Research Service scientist Xianming Chen issued another stripe rust update and recommendation report Wednesday. In it Chen lists winter wheat varieties in three categories; those that should not be sprayed; those that should be sprayed with a fungicide and those that may or may not need a fungicide treatment for stripe rust.
