Looking at Immigration Audits

Looking at Immigration Audits. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Earlier this week we began a chat with Bruce Grim, Executive Director of the Washington State Horticultural Association about the recent immigration audits and the ramifications for the rest of the fruit industry here in the northwest. Grim says this is the time for us to come up with immigration reform. GRIM: What it clearly does bottom line is points up once again the absolute necessity of immigration reform, comprehensive immigration reform specifically – something on the order of AgJobs if comprehensive is not doable. But clearly we have a problem in the industry that we've known, we've been very upfront about it, we've asked everybody about it and we need immigration reform and we need it now. President Obama has been making a lot of noise lately when it comes to wanting to get immigration reform solved. GRIM: Not only has he been saying that right along but Senator Schumer from New York and Senator Graham from South Carolina, a Democrat and Republican Senators have been working very hard on a measure that would do just that – be a comprehensive immigration reform package and I think the likelihood of it in an election year given the rather divisive nature of either the just concluded or not yet concluded health care debate depending what your point of view is whether that can move forward at this point that's the real $64 dollar question I think that we don't know the answer to. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
