First Annual Washington Oregon Potato Conference approaching

Farm and Ranch January 15, 2010 It is less than two weeks now to the first ever joint Washington Oregon Potato Conference. The event runs January 26th through the 28th at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, Washington.

Bill Brewer, the Executive Director of the Oregon Potato Commission, says Oregon growers have been urging greater cooperation with Washington in many areas. Both Washington and Oregon were holding their potato conferences the same week since Washington moved its event to Kennewick in late January and Brewer says Oregon producers had to choose which conference to attend. That provided another reason for cooperation.

Brewer: “It is just a lot better for our vendors. They only have to participate in one conference. Our growers in Oregon will be involved in a larger conference, because we normally only have a day and a half and we have not had a trade show like the Washington conference. So on our part we feel like our growers are just going to receive a lot better program for the time that they spend.”

Brewer says Oregon had three people on the conference committee to help plan the event’s program.

The conference’s production sessions will be on January 27th and 28th. The Potato Bar is on the 27th.
