A March sales closing date for crop insurance

Washington Ag February 23, 2009 USDA’s Risk Management Agency is reminding Pacific Northwest producers of the March 16th sales closing deadline for their 2009 Crop year spring Multi-Peril Crop Insurance or MPCI. MPCI program changes from year to year and Jo Lynne Seufer with RMA’s regional office in Spokane cites an example relating to barley. Seufer: “The Barley Revenue Assurance expanded into Oregon and Washington. That is in all counties where Barley Multi-Peril Crop Insurance is currently available, which is just about all of them. The Barley Revenue Assurance is a revenue product similar to Income Protection and Crop Revenue Coverage. So these will give producers more options and different ways of covering risk on their farm buy using another revenue tool. New and improved Dry Pea MPCI provisions were filed for the 2009 crop year and chickpea producers in the northwest who wish to insure their production must now apply for coverage under the Dry Pea Crop Provisions by March 16th. Previously coverage was provided under the Dry Bean MPCI, but that has now changed. New applications for Adjusted Gross Revenue-Lite are also still being accepted until the March 16th deadline. Tomorrow, linkage between Federal crop insurance and federal disaster programs. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
