Newhouse Appointments Pt 2

I'm Bob Larson. 4th Congressional District Representative Dan Newhouse is taking a different tact to serve Washington's Ag community in his second term.

The former State Ag Director says leaving his seat on the House Ag Committee to accept three new subcommittee appointments will give him added influence ...

DAN NEWHOUSE ... "I really think it will. The Appropriations Committee funds all the discretionary spending for all programs including Agricultural programs. So, the Department of Agriculture, the Forest Service, all the animal plant health, whether it's food safety or rural development, market programs, nutrition programs. All of those things that I would have been, as a member of the Ag Committee, been considering from a policy perspective, now I will have that, in addition to, the appropriation aspect of all of those issues. So, I think it adds another dimension to my ability to have an impact in those areas."

Newhouse says he'll have more input on matters like the Hirst ruling and What's Upstream ...

DAN NEWHOUSE ... "All the federal agencies, EPA included, run off of appropriations. And, to be able to be in the room when those decisions are made and to be able to affect the level of appropriations, increase or decrease for any agency, this is just going to be a great vantage point, a great position to be in to have input on that."

Listen tomorrow for more on the moves of Representative Dan Newhouse.
