I'm Bob Larson. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse of the 4th Congressional District has a couple of new sub-committee appointments he believes will allow him to better serve Washington's Ag community.

The Sunnyside Republican was named to the House Appropriation's sub-committee on Energy and Water Development ...

DAN NEWHOUSE ... "Well I think this really enhances my ability to be engaged in agricultural issues. As you know, most everything takes some kind of appropriation and so the gamut of issues that farmers and agriculturalists face, the ag industry faces, most everything will come through the Appropriations Committee. Whether it went through the Agricultural Policy Committee or not, I'll be able to be a part of the decision making on all of the issues that are so important."

Newhouse says in the end, it all comes down to money ...

DAN NEWHOUSE ... "Being on the Appropriations Committee, it's where everything comes together. It's where you consider all the different issues that each of the policy committees have considered. It all comes together in the Appropriations Committee. So, I think this really increases my ability to be effective in advocating for good solutions for the Ag Industry."

Newhouse is giving up his current seat on the Agriculture Committee and the Natural Resources Committee in order to serve on House Appropriations.

The full committee funds all discretionary spending including federal agriculture programs, the Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Forest Service projects, as well as important areas such as animal and plant health programs, food product safety, rural development and farm services, marketplace oversight, and nutrition programs.
