Farmer's Market Week

Farmer's Market Week

Farmer's Market Week. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

All this week is National Farmers Market Week and Karen Kinney, Executive Director for the Washington State Farmers Market Association says they are celebrating.

KINNEY: The Washington State Farmers Market Association is featuring three recipes that highlight fruits and vegetables that are on all the farm tables at all the markets around the stationed are very affordable.

The state has over 160 farmers markets with 118 member markets in the state and those numbers continue to climb.

KINNEY: People might be surprised at how welcome that they can feel at a market and how interested farmers and vendors are in questions. Most of them are interested in sharing their passion for growing with shoppers and that there's a lot going on at a market that you may not think about.

All kinds of entertainment from music and dance to activities for kids, food and of course the freshest produce around. Both sides of the state do a good job in sharing their bounty.

KINNEY: There are farmers that are willing to travel in here from Central and Eastern Washington to bring their products because I can't believe the tomatoes that we've got and the peaches and the nectarines that are coming in and the melons and the peppers and everything and it's just amazing.

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
