Soil Workshop

Soil Workshop

Soil Workshop. I’m Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

Ever want to know more about your soil and how to make it work harder for you? Angela Anegon with Tilth Producers talks about their upcoming one-day soil university.

ANEGON: We’ll be in Pullman for an all day workshop on soil fertility and composting. We will start the day at the Eggert family organic farm with a tour there and graduate students and soil scientists will share how farmers can access their soil in the field with using crop rotation and measure how active the biology of the soil is.

Anegon says they will be talking about how to use compost teas to help improve that soil for better plant fertility.

ANEGON: And then we’ll also tour the WSU Compost Facility and have some hands on time with microscopes in the lab to look at soil and soil microbes under the microscope which will be really great for farmers who might not get the opportunity to see what’s happening beneath their feet.

The workshop is planned for this coming Monday from 8am to 3:30. Cost: $30 Tilth Producers members/students/interns and $40 non-members with lunch included. For more information or to register visit their website at tilthproducers.org. Another workshop is planned for September 9th on profitable vegetable growing in Mount Vernon.

And that’s Washington Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
