Ag Expo & Farm Forum

Spokane Convention Center will be a hub of activity February 3 through the 5th when it hosts the 2015 Annual Spokane Ag Expo and Pacific Northwest Farm Forum. For the last 38 years the Spokane Ag Expo has been providing anyone in the business of agriculture an opportunity to see the latest in farming innovations, and this year is no exception with more than 300 exhibitors planning to attend. Matt Becker with Northwest Farm Credit Services and Chairman of the Farm Forum says that on the Forum side there will be 36 educational seminars and forums for farmers and ranchers to attend.

BECKER: The opening session Tuesday morning begins at 9:00 am with Dr. Art Douglas, Professor Emeritus from Creighton University. He’ll be covering as he always does the weather patterns and how they affect Northwest farmers and their competing markets around the world. He’ll be joined by Randy Fortenbery who holds the Thomas B. Mick Endowed Chair at the WSU School of Economic Sciences, and his topic centers around the 2014 Farm Bill and its impact on acreage allocations and land prices.

Some of the topics to be covered during the educational seminars include wireworm control in cereal grain systems, estate planning and tax issues, livestock health, water quality regulations and land value trends - just to name a few. There will also be several panel discussions, one of which will be on Big Data. Becker will be back tomorrow to talk more about what will be covered during the Big Data panel discussion.
