Washington cattleman Jack Field is back today to talk more about the upcoming Washington Cattlemen's Association Annual Convention and Tradeshow November 12 - 14 in Spokane, which he says those in the industry can't afford to miss, especially when it comes to the Zoetis Cattlemen's College.

FIELD: Dr. Brad Morgan with the (Zoetis) Food Safety Division has a presentation titled "Not Our Grandfather's Cattle Industry Anymore", and Dr. Morgan covers a wide variety of issues and analyzes some of the changes that we've seen over the past decade and comments on some that he thinks may be coming down the road.

Field says they will have discussions on the gene max advantage tool.

FIELD: That's a tool that commercial cow calf producers can use to better enhance their selection of replacement heifers in moving their herds in a particular direction that they may have in their mind.

Rounding out the Cattlemen's College portion of the event will be a presentation on supervisory certification and strategic planning.

FIELD: So we can try to do a little better job in managing people and arriving at more uniformed goals.

Keynote speakers for the event include Jeff Geider, Director of Texas Christian University's Institute of Ranch Management, who will be speaking about the market and the challenges he sees facing those in beef production presently and in the future.

FIELD: We're hoping to have a great turnout - look forward to seeing friends and neighbors from around the state, and hope that this is an opportunity to bring new faces to Spokane and have a chance to visit with old friends.

That's Washington Ag Today.
