Cows and Warming

Cows and Warming

I have for several years supported the notion that our climate is changing. All you have to do is look at all of the science. Where I get into trouble with my more conservative colleagues is to say it is global warming. That opens up a can of worms because in the last several years we have had particularly cold winters. So what I think is best is just to use the term climate change and add the caveat that it may not necessarily be entirely man-made. However, just when lots of people thought it was a myth that had been scientifically debunked - here comes the EPA again blaming cow flatulence for global warming. Former Secretary of Agriculture John Block says the EPA and the Administration are obsessed with climate change: They have released a climate action plan that includes the targeting of methane emissions from cows. So blame the cows, the sheep and the goats, ruminant animals for global warming and climate change.”

The former secretary says the facts don't support their position. "Methane emissions have already fallen by 17% since 1990. Our CO2 emissions are down by 20%. We haven’t experienced any global warming in the last 17 years.” Block says it is another example of government over-reach.
