Agribusiness Update for Friday 08/15/14

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

China announced export suspensions for six major U.S. pork plants and six cold storage facilities based on the country's ractopamine-free requirements. Meatingplace reports a notice this week from China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to the U.S. Embassy's Office of Agricultural Affairs in Beijing indicates that the delistings are due to findings of ractopamine.

USDA's National Animal Health Monitoring System announced the launch of Bison 2014 in the next few weeks.  Bison 2014 is the first-ever national study of the U.S. ranched-bison industry.  The hope is to increase knowledge and understanding about the characteristics, health and management practices, and challenges facing bison operations in the United States.  The data will come from U.S. ranched bison producers.  USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service will send producers a questionnaire and materials describing the study.  Producers are asked to complete and return the questionnaire within two weeks.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
