Agribusiness Update for Monday 04/21/14

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

The Film Farmland premiered last Thursday at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Two packed theaters saw the show that shared the story of farms and ranches in the U.S. The Farmland website says most americans have never stepped foot on a farm or ranch or even talked to the people who grow and raise the food we eat. The film will take an intimate look at the lives of farmers and ranchers in their '20s, all of whom are now responsible for running their farming business. The film was made with support from the U.S. Farmer's and Ranchers Alliance.

Oregon's Greg Walden is having a roundtable meeting with craft brewers in Bend today. The Food and Drug Administration recently released a draft rule that would tightly regulate brewers' "spent grains," a byproduct of the beer-making process that is often sold or given to ranchers for use as animal feed. The draft rule could harm the craft brewing and livestock industries in Oregon, and Walden has urged the FDA to reconsider its rule.  He will announce steps he is taking legislatively to bring common-sense to this rule-making process.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
