Reuters reports the U.S. may be willing to accept proposed cuts on U.S. beef imports from Japan instead of insisting on getting rid of the tariffs in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. During talks last week, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman seemed to have abandon insistence on deleting these tariffs completely - which many ag organizations are lobbying for - but there are still big gaps that remain. The Japanese Trade Minister says the April 24th summit between President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will be important.

Walmart is joining forces with Wild Oats to expand its offerings of organic foods - including deli, produce, baked goods and yogurt - along with offering organic products at lower prices. Walmart plans to remove the price premium associated with organic products so consumers can expect to save at least 25-percent. Walmart Executive Vice President of Grocery Jack Sinclair says Walmart customers are interested in purchasing organic products - and they usually have had to pay more - but Walmart wants to create a new price position for organic groceries to increase access to more customers.
