When it comes to scouting, everyone has their own style. I know guys that have the luxury of getting out 3 or 4 months in advance, but for some of us life gets in the way. But there's good news, with some of the new technology and equipment they have today, you don't have to spend all your money driving back and forth from the mountains.

Tom "Matt, that's funny that you bring that up because I can remember our scouting trips as a kid. We'd hop in the pickup truck, we'd get up to a camp spot and camp for a couple nights. In the mornings we would go out and glass the ridges, in the middle of the day we would go out and cut firewood or take the fishing poles out and fish a little stream. But now these days it's totally different, there are new techniques known as desktop scouting. Sitting in front of a computer and researching your hunt from a computer screen and there's guys that have multiple screens up that dive into this and take it real serious. There's google maps, onyx maps, base maps, there's a lot of programs you can load on your garmins, your cell phones your computer that are all integrated that can help you plot out your hunt. These days it's a different type of scouting, a lot of guys are at work thinking about hunting. There's that old saying, you can be at work thinking about hunting or you can be hunting thinking about work. Well a lot of the guys are at work thinking about hunting, and they are using a lot of these desktop scouting programs planning their next upcoming hunt. It's hard to imagine how the next generation from now might be scouting."

Matt "But even with the greatest technology and programs in the world you still have to get your boots on and make it happen."
