It's that time of year again and everybody is checking their mailboxes to see if that drew that dream hunt. Well, you did it, finally you drew that hunt of a lifetime. Now is the time to get mentally and physically prepared and get those horses legged up. We have all heard those nightmare packing stories ten miles back and something goes terribly wrong. Well don't let it be you. Make sure you and your horses are ready for that dream season come fall. Today we are going to talk about some does and don'ts of packing in the back country. Allen, "Matt your exactly right, I know you have grown up doing a lot of packing in the back country. What do you think are some of the most common mistakes someone makes in the backcountry?" Rice, I would say one of the most common mistakes out on the trial are guys overloading their pack and not checking their packs to make sure everything is balanced. A good thing to have is someone riding behind called a spotter making sure everything is going well. It's always good to have a few extra ropes just in case. It is always a good idea to make sure your horse is completely comfortable with its surroundings weather it's your pack saddle, decker or panyards and of course a guy needs to be savvy on his knot tying. There is no shame in doing some research and practice on the knot tying.
