A chat with regular contributor, expert shot and hunter, Sales Associate at Sportsmen's Warehouse, Al Strupp. Al, at least in Idaho, Big Horn season is just about to open and I wondered what you recommended. Sometimes there are situations that call for a long shot. "I'm just going to tell you what I would do. If it is any kind of a large animal, I typically won't shoot it if it is over 300 yards. I will try and get closer. That's just me because I like to make an ethical shot. I have shot out to 400 but I just know the gun real well, I know what the wind is doing and I have it all down but typically, unless I have a real solid rest or something, I will shoot anything over 300 yards but that's just me. There are some guys out there that will shoot 1000 yards but their guns are all doped up and they have ballistics and they practice, but to me, I like to get the animal a chance.
