I talked with Sportsman's Warehouse sales associate Chan Chonley: "We sell 12 to 14 foot John boats. They are flat bottomed so you can take them into very shallow areas. There's only one thing about them. They are not rated for a lot of weight so you can have too much gear or too many people. They are camo painted so you can take them duck hunting. A lot of guys by these just for duck hunting. They work really well because you can beat them ups day after day and not expect them to leak. What kind of water would you take them in for fishing? Pretty much always freshwater and water that doesn't have two heavy a wake for too many waves. You can take them in little streams and run them up streams and fish for salmon. I seen guys take them in streams that are as wide as the boat and shallower than a couple of inches with jet motors on them and run up there and not have any issues.
