Bear hunting in the Lolo district.

Ted Fry describes himself as a primitive hunter. He has come on the show many times and regaled us with how he makes everything he hunts with out of natural elements. He's also a professional hunting guide and recently told me about a bear hunt. "We do what is called pot and stalk, and that kind of country is not real conducive to that type of bow hunting, is so brushy and jungley, it is not open, it's like a rain forest, so we do a lot of baiting so we mostly sit on the ground, we don't do tree stands very often although it seems that most of our clients tend to feel more comfortable up in a tree stand than on the ground, but you bait and wait, and that's one of the nice things about bear hunting in the spring and fall is that it is an afternoon thing. You don't have to get up real early, like in elk hunting, getting out there at 3 AM. You can get up and have breakfast with a cup of coffee and then go out and do your baits then come back and relax a little bit come back and have lunch and then go back out and sit at a stand or you can spot and stalk and that is easier in the spring because they are in the berry fields. When it comes to the wolf thing, it is not a joke, it really has changed things.
