How to Help Ranchers Affected by Wildfires

The Idaho Soda Fire burning more than 283,000 acres. In Oregon nearly 400,000 acres have burned and in Washington the tally is at 732,000 acres. I’ve had several people ask how they can help ranchers who have been affected by wildfire throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Oregon Cattlemen Association Communications Director Kayli Hanley shares more details about the fund the OCA has started to help Oregon ranchers impacted by wildfire.
Hanley: “We’re calling it the Wildfire Assistance for Ranchers. The overall goal is to provide assistance and support to Oregon ranchers who have undergone the devastating affects of the 2015 wildfire season. We’re accepting several different types of donations those include: donations of hay, transportation, temporary land usage and of course monetary donations as well.”
You can go to orcattle.com to donate.
For Idaho ranchers affected by the Soda Fire, if you’d like to donate go to the Owyhee Cattlemen’s Association website at owyheecattlemen.com or their Facebook page.
For north central Washington’s Okanogan County ranchers affected by those fires the Okanogan County Cattlemen’s Association is organizing donations.
Hanley continues with how the OCA will determine how to distribute the funds they raise.
Hanley: “The hay and monetary donations are going to be given out by an OCA-selected committee after most of the fires have been died down.”
