Hands Off My Hot Dog

Hands Off My Hot Dog

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has raised the ire of several different ag commodity groups for their lack of sound nutrition science in their recommendations. North American Meat Institute Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Janet Riley shares
Riley: “We are troubled because we currently eat the correct amount of protein on average as Americans. It is the only food group that is consumed at the proper levels. And yet the Dietary Guidelines Committee recommend that people eat less red and processed meat. We are making sure that Congress and that USDA and HHS know what we think because we don’t think that is based upon the best science. So we’ve launched a petition. We’re telling lots of policy makers, ‘Hands off my hot dog.’ It is the simplest way we can say it. We think that Americans are able to make their own decisions and telling people to eat less of these products makes no sense. So we encourage consumers to write to their lawmakers, write to USDA and write to HHS. The easiest way to communicate your views is to search for our petition at change.org using the search term hands off my hot dog.”
