Results of the Calf Donation

Last Thursday Washington’s Yakima Cattlemen donated a calf at the Toppenish Livestock Market with the proceeds going to those ranchers impacted by the state’s largest wildfire, the Carlton Complex. Washington Cattlemen’s Association Executive Vice President Jack Field says that the results were amazing.
Field: “At the end of the auction we had just a little bit over $19,000 was raised for fencing materials for those ranchers impacted by the state’s largest fire the Carlton Complex. Coupling that with donations that have already come into the Cattlemen’s office in Ellensburg, I’m estimating we are going to have north of $25,000 to be put towards fencing materials for those folks who have been hurt so bad by the wildfire.”
Field shares about another project that interested ranchers can participate in to help those cattle producers affected by the fire.
Field: “We’ve created an opportunity for ranchers around the state to help their friends and neighbors who were hit so hard by the fire by donating a bred cow, a bred heifer or even a replacement heifer this fall. We’re getting a very strong interest and if anyone is interested and they’d like to participate in that — they can contact me at the WCA office.”
He says the response has been great.
Field: “A huge thank you that goes out to everyone who has participated or helped out — whether its at the rollover auction or at any other recovery effort throughout the state. It’s truly humbling to see just how far people will reach and how people are helping out in this time of need for so many.”
