This is your Northwest report for Wednesday, January 18, I'm David Sparks and in the last official week of the Obama administration, agri-pulse.com is reporting that there still has been no announcement who will be the new agriculture secretary. Trump spokesman John Spicer told reporters that a decision will be made sometime soon. If you think that will happen before the inauguration might be correct, however maybe not. Vice Pres. Elect Mike Spence speaking on Face the Nation said "We may well have the entire cabinet named before the inauguration." Former Sec. Tom Vilsack's last day was last Friday. Michael Scuse has been named acting chief of the agriculture department but he won't be there for long. Even if the current administration wasn't taking over this week Delaware Gov. elect John Carney has announced that Scuse it is his choice to be the next agriculture secretary.

Elsewhere, on MSNBC Mr. Vilsack talked about the value of rural America to the country as a whole.. "You are who you are today because you delegated the responsibility of feeding yourself and your family to farmers and you never thank a Farmer for that but you should." Pretty gracious given that rural America made a huge contribution to the ouster of a democratic candidate.
