Record Salmon Numbers plus Milk & Cookies

Record Salmon Numbers plus Milk & Cookies. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Record numbers of Snake River fall chinook salmon have spawned. 9,345 fall chinook salmon redds have been counted in the Snake River and tributaries between Lower Granite and Hells Canyon dams which is the highest count since surveys began in 1988 and is the result of the third highest adult Snake River fall chinook return – 59,300 in all – since the four lower Snake River dams were completed in 1975. Credit for the record-returns of fall chinook goes to the Snake River Fall Chinook Program, which is a program of the Nez Perce Tribe, along with the program's co-managers.

Milk and Cookies, it's a natural. That's why the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council in Idaho have teamed with the United Dairymen of Idaho. Cindy Miller, spokesperson for UDI explains.

MILLER: We decided to partner up and for every box of cookies that is bought and donated to their "Cookies from the Heart" program the United Dairymen of Idaho will match that with a gallon of milk and all of that combined goes to the Idaho Food Bank. In years past they've had about 3500 boxes donated to this campaign. Of course we are hoping to beat that number this year.

Miller says that whether the box is purchased online or in person, they can still donate to Cookies from the Heart.
