Pacific Northwest Hay Update

Pacific Northwest Hay Update

Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “For the Columbia Basin hay report, we had a little over 25,000 tons trade this week compared to last week. Alfalfa for domestic and export sales were steady to $30 lower. Preimum alfalfa for export sold from $200 to $233 per ton at the stack. Small square alfalfa for retail hay sold for $250 to $260. Orchard grass small square for retail hay sold from $260 to $275. Timothy for export large squares sold at $220 at the stack.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week, trade was very slow as most of the trade area in the last couple weeks received heavy rains and damaged hay that was on the ground. Demand was good for non-rained on hay, and was light for heavy rained on supplies. Large square bales of alfalfa good/premium sold for $175 per ton. Large square oat bales rated good sold for $150 per ton.
In Oregon, hay prices were generally steady compared to previous week. There was more buyer interest and the volume of trading was higher than the week before. In Central Oregon, small square alfalfa bales for retail sold for $250 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large square alfalfa bales rated premium/supreme sold for $240 per ton. In the Klamath Basin, large square alfalfa rated good sold for $200 per ton.
