Reminder: FSA Seeks Nominees for Ag Committees

USDA’s Farm Service agency is looking for candidates for upcoming grower-elected county committee election. FSA offices in every county of every state will accept nominations through this Friday, August 1st.
Washington State’s FSA Executive Director Judy Olson shares more details
Olson: “August first is the deadline for the nominations to be in to FSA for county committee members. Farmers and ranchers can nominate themselves or their peers to serve as a county committee member. The county committees are elected by farms and ranchers and they ensure that federal farm programs meet the needs of local farmers and ranchers.”
An example of that important local perspective Olson says is the recent wild fire disasters throughout our region.
Olson: “The County committee do play a very important role in helping to verify the magnify of loss, to identify the needs of local producers, etc. So this is one of the areas of where they become an intricate part of our federal farm program system. These committees also make important decisions about how the programs are administered within the county and are the place where farmers and rancher can appeal agency decisions.”
