Grains End Mixed on Thursday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for February 20, 2015.
Corn closed higher with help from USDA’s early planting estimates of 89 million acres of corn which was pretty much neutral. Wheat closed unchanged to 3 1/2 cents lower.From the floor of the CME Group, Shellady shares his observations of Thursday’s markets.
Shellady: “Wrapping up yesterday’s trade Thursday wheat was unchanged although the back months were easier so steady to easier for wheat. We also had corn up about 5 and 1/2 cents it stemmed from the report about USDA planting expectations. Now the real one will be the farmer one at the end of March I’m sure you all know that. We will all focus on that one and boy oh boy doesn’t that one change from March to July too.”
Chicago May Wheat ended Thursday down 4 and 1/4 cents at 5-19 and 1/2. May corn ended the day up 5 and 3/4 cents at 3-97 and 3/4.
Portland March prices for soft white wheat of ordinary protein were mixed down 2 and 1/4 to up 1 and 1/4 cents ranging between 6-59 and 3/4 and 6-65. White club wheat of ordinary protein had no price comparisons. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were down 3 and 1/2 cents at mostly 6-42 and 1/2. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were down 8 cents at mostly 8-64.
April live cattle were down $1.12 and half on Thursday at 151-50. April Feeder cattle were down 50 cents at 201-57 and half. April class III milk was down 21 cents at 15-73.
