Wheat Ends Thursday Up

Wheat Ends Thursday Up

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for April 18, 2014.

With commodity markets closed today for Good Friday holiday, Thursday’s trade acted more like a Friday one. From the floor of the CME Group, Jack Scoville shares his observations of Thursday’s markets.

Scoville: “A mixed closed in the grains as we go into the Easter Holiday with soybeans and corn trading a little lower and wheat trading higher. Wheat seems to be a weather market once again and also paying attention of course to the situation over in the Ukraine. But the situation there seems to be deescalating, seemed like it was beginning to heat up over night but then seemed to deescalate over the day.”

Chicago May Wheat ended Thursday up 3 and 1/4 cents at 6-91 and 1/4. May corn ended the day down 2 and 3/4 cents at 4-94 and 3/4.

Portland prices for soft white wheat were up 3 and 1/4 cents at mostly 7-71 and 3/4. White club wheat prices were 3 and 1/4 to 32 cents at mostly 8-21 and 3/4. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were mixed down 16 and 1/2 to up 3 and 1/2 cents at mostly 8-72. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 1 and 1/4 to 6 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-78 and 3/4.

June live cattle were down $1.25 on Thursday at 134-37 and half. May Feeder cattle were down $1.85 at 178-05. May class III milk was up 14 cents at 22-14.
