Quiet Market on Friday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for April 14, 2014.

On Friday, the commodities markets were relatively quiet. USDA Grain and Livestock Market Reporter Greg Sanders gives an update on the region’s cattle markets.

Sanders: “There are still calves contracting for fall delivery. Some 680-weights traded at $180 in Washington and then the heifers traded at $172 at 625-weight. In the auctions, stocker cattle were a little bit softer but feeder cattle were about $4 higher. Slaughter cattle were lower because they took bunch a money off the cow meat. There was a video down in California and that sold very good. That was where most of the action of took place this weeks they had 13,000 head on the video.”

Chicago May Wheat ended Friday down 2 cents at 6-60 and 1/4. May corn ended the day down 2 and 3/4 cents at 4-98 and 1/2.

Portland prices for soft white wheat were steady to down 2 cents at mostly 7-48 and 1/4. White club wheat prices were steady to down 2 cents at mostly 7-98 and 1/4. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were down 3 cents at mostly 8-39 and 1/2. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 3/4 of a cent at mostly 8-51 and 3/4.
