Satellites, not drones

Jason DeVorek Is an ag tech specialist with Winfield Solutions, a company that monitors fields via satellite in an effort to increase yield and decrease problem areas. We asked if his company used drones and he had an interesting response. "Most of the co-op systems and other people are starting to use drones but it's nearly impossible when you look at it on a scalability standpoint. With FAA regulations currently it takes two people to run one. The time frame it takes to fly the field and then stitch everything together is inefficient. I ran some numbers for a 75,000 acre spread. It takes 30 people to fly 15 drones and then those 30 people have to work on computers 15 hours a day to get a four day turnaround on the 75,000 acres. That's using some of the leading peoples' time constraints from leading drone companies in the market. For a scouting purpose, I think it's a great thing.
