Biopesticide

Biopesticide. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture.

Pest management can be a tricky business and Bill Stoneman with the Biopesticide Industry Alliance says they work with a lot of different groups to help foster the adoption of biopesticide technologies.

STONEMAN: The Biopesticide Industry Alliance is a group of companies that are manufacturers, marketers or affiliated industries around biological pesticides. The use of naturally occurring compounds and micro-organisms and so forth for the protection of crops

He talks about their role.

STONEMAN: We represent the membership in several areas - promotion, public affairs and in legislative actions and regulatory actions. We've got very active committees made up of members that are involved in promoting our industry as well as protecting our industry working with regulators to assure that we have a smooth movement of products into the marketplace from our production pipelines to the marketplace.

And Stoneman says there are some big things happening this year for the BPIA.

STONEMAN: We've had significant growth in growth in the industry and we've had some major agro-chemistry industry very interested in us. One of the things that has happened just in the last 2 months is that Monsanto in a big way bought into one of our member companies by providing them with funding to do some additional research and development while they take that companies products to the marketplace.
