Hydroponics is the growing of plants in a water and fertilizer solution containing the necessary nutrients for plant growth. It’s not a new science. In the early 1930's, W.E Gericke, of the University of California, put laboratory experiments in plant nutrition on a commercial scale. In doing so, he termed these nutri-culture systems "hydroponics". The word was derived from two Greek words, hydro, meaning water, and ponos, meaning labor, or literally, water working. Crop King is a company that specializes in commercial greenhouses and they use a bio-catalyst. Spokesperson Paul Brentlinger says this is not a gimmick: “What typically fascinates people is this flash, vertical, indoors, lights, blah blah blah. It is not so much in nutrient package but a bio-catalyst is something that is going to speed up the process. It makes the nutrients more available to the plant, it speeds up the processes that the plants have to accomplish in order to grow. It’s not only making it happen bigger, faster and stronger, but also I don’t know if you are familiar with Brix levels, BRIX, it is basically the sugar content in a plant, it is not a direct representation of taste but it is usually what people will use it as a sign of improved taste, so with Biowish we are also seeing improved Brix level in all crops that we have tested it on so far.
