A talk with Idaho Cattle Association’s Wyatt Prescott about Western Watershed Project’s claim that cattle cause wildfire. “I don’t even want to give them credit by calling them environmentalists they are really falling under that false pretense. They are lawyers who bilk the public. Absolutely. The reality of it is that cattlemen are true environmentalists. It’s the ranching families that have the interests of those lands and that wildlife habitat. If they don’t take care of their land, it doesn't take care of them and their livelihoods become unsustainable. What was the name of the ex-chairman? John Marvel. He retired and the new director is in place and his name is Travis Bruner. Nothing has changed. Their sole mission is to get rid of cattle but I really found it encouraging looking at the op-ed and the reader comments that followed. The majority of the readers were not buying the false claims that they were making. So we have an Op-ed where we sent in and we just feel that people need to hear both sides of the issue. It is disappointing that those guys feel like they can spread that type of propaganda without any basis in fact or reality. It's a simple concept which is not even debatable. The fire triangle is fuel, oxygen, heat. We cannot control the ignition and oxidizer and the wind and the lightning that ignites that fire but we can control the fuel which is the grass. We can graze it. So you are certain that no cattle is able to open his Zippo, click it and start a fire. (Laughter). I am pretty sure not.
