By now we are all aware of the tragedy and devastation surrounding the Soda Fire that burned almost 300,000 acres in Owyhee County and eastern Oregon.. The outpouring of support from others has not been lost on the residents of the area. While Ted and Mary Blackstock have been busy dealing with the fire, friends and neighbors have stocked their ranch with food and water. “It’s pretty amazing that phone calls have just been nonstop and you can kind of keep track of what is going on on Facebook. Everybody is calling. Our extension office is offering to have people drop off food and drinks there. Every time we stop for about 10 minutes, there is another cooler full of drinks showing up. It’s been wonderful that way. Sandwiches. It’s been amazing.”

Even cousin Jeff Schutt of Nampa showed up to help. “Ever since I heard the fire was coming through their place, I wanted to come out but some of us have day jobs so I got out here as soon as I could and I’m going to help by doing whatever I can. Hopefully we can find some cows and bring them home.”

Blackstock put Jeff to work immediately on an ATV searching for cattle, yes, tragically, dead or alive.
